Ramadan Festival ( Ramazan Bayramı )

We have finished another year's Ramadan and now the three days of  the '' Ramadan Feast '' or '' Sugar Holidays'' ( ''Şeker Bayramı'' in Turkish ) are upon us! After four years of spendıng the Sugar Holidays away from my family, alone in America, it's impossible to describe the feelings of excitement and joy I am now feeling

After four years of being absent during special celebration, I will at last get to kiss my parents' hand and give them gifts. ( Kissing the hands of your elders is an important way of showing love and respect in Turkey. ) Both for my parents and for me this is a very emotional celebration and it brings tears to my eyes...

Early in the morning on the first day of holidays my father and brothers will go to the mosque to pray. After they return we will have a special breakfast and everyone will kiss my parents' hand and give them gifts. Years ago my siblings and I started the tradition of giving gifts on the morning first day of the Bayram ( I'm not sure if all Turkish families do this or not ). The reason for giving these gifts to our parents is that during Ramadan my father spent even more than usual to buy food for our family and our various guests. My mother spent many hours and much energy preparing the morning meal and wonderful evening '' iftar ''meals. We can't really repay them for these things, but we decided to make this small gesture of getting them gifts.

For the three days of the holidays we will visit our relatives and friends to wish them a good holiday and show them our love and respect. These days are national holidays in Turkey, and schools and businesses are closed to allow everyone to celebrate. I hope you also get to celebrate many holidays  as wonderful as this!

Sezen Aksu Songs in Florida

On a night illuminated by melodies, the SAC comedy lab transformed into a haven of Turkish music in Orlando, as the notes of Sezen Aksu's iconic songs reverberated through the hearts of approximately 100 attendees. The concert, graced by the award-winning singer and kemenche player Aslıhan Erkisi, alongside the world-renowned Armenian oud player and composer Ara Dinkjian, was a symphony of culture, emotion, and collective memory. As Aslıhan Erkisi's voice soared through the opening lines of "Vazgeçtim," you could feel a wave of emotion wash over the crowd. The poignant lyrics, coupled with her expressive delivery, brought many to the edge of tears, as each word seemed to echo their own tales of resignation and poignant reflection. The atmosphere shifted with "Aldatildik," as the audience, now emboldened by the stirring music, joined Aslıhan in a chorus that filled the room. Her ability to engage the audience, inviting them to become a part of the performance...
